He stated that treating the appointment of an ambassador as a routine administrative recruitment undermines the dignity and sanctity of diplomacy.<\/p>\n<p>According to Poudel, &#8220;An ambassador is not merely a government employee but a distinguished figure who represents the entire nation and is dispatched to a foreign country as the personal representative of the Head of State.&#8221; He expressed the view that ambassadorial appointments should be made through a confidential internal process, following thorough study and evaluation.<\/p>\n<p>He further argued that the process of public hearings and inviting complaints can negatively impact the morale and effectiveness of an ambassador. His statement noted, &#8220;An individual who has been subjected to public debate and controversy may be viewed with suspicion by the host country, which can damage their negotiating capacity, credibility, and overall effectiveness.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The government currently has 17 ambassadorial positions lying vacant across various Nepali missions abroad. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sought applications under the new procedure.
