The sixth edition of the Himalayan Travel Mart 2026 commenced in Lalitpur on Monday, aiming to promote Nepal&#8217;s tourism sector at the international level. Organized by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Nepal Chapter, the mart has brought together over 100 international representatives from 27 countries, including 75 global buyers and representatives from more than 80 exhibiting organizations.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s mart is themed &#8216;New Frontiers in Tourism.&#8217; The event aims to expand business ties between Nepali tourism entrepreneurs and international buyers, while also facilitating discussions on new possibilities and trends in tourism.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the inaugural session, PATA Nepal Chapter Chief Executive Officer Suresh Singh Budal noted that the global tourism industry is undergoing rapid transformation and stated that Nepal must seize as an opportunity the growing demand for sustainable, regenerative, health and wellness-based, and authentic tourism experiences.<\/p>\n<p>He remarked that Nepal&#8217;s natural beauty, cultural heritage, and spiritual significance have earned the country a special place in the global tourism market. &#8220;We want to develop not just tourist numbers, but sustainable, inclusive, and community-friendly tourism,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>CEO Budal informed that starting this year, the traditional one-day conference has been transformed into the &#8216;HTM Insight Forum.&#8217; The forum is said to create an environment for in-depth dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collaboration among tourism stakeholders. He noted that Nepal&#8217;s greatest asset is the hospitality and friendly nature of the Nepali people, and it is this very quality that leaves a positive impression of Nepal on foreign tourists.<\/p>\n<p>Stating that Nepal is one of the world&#8217;s leading adventure tourism destinations, he said that activities such as trekking, mountaineering, rafting, paragliding, and mountain biking have established Nepal as a hub for adventure tourism.<\/p>\n<p>Discussions under the mart are set to cover topics including adventure tourism, sustainability, wellness tourism, MICE tourism, destination weddings, digital payment systems, and regenerative tourism.
