A giant panda cub was born in the Republic of Korea on June 3, according to the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda.<\/p>\n

The female cub, weighing more than 170 grams, was born at Everland theme park. Wang Pingfeng, a giant panda expert from the Chinese center who traveled to South Korea to assist with the birth, said the cub is vocal and energetic.<\/p>\n

According to Wang, the mother panda, Ai Bao, showed skillful maternal behavior by licking and nursing the cub. He confirmed that the newborn had consumed breast milk on the afternoon of June 3.<\/p>\n

Both the mother and the cub are reported to be in good health.<\/p>\n

After Ai Bao showed signs of labor, the Chinese center provided on-site assistance and formed an online expert team to closely monitor the birth in cooperation with South Korean counterparts. Wang said he will remain in South Korea for some time to help care for the mother and cub, while the online expert team will continue to provide remote guidance and support.<\/p>\n

The cub\u2019s parents, giant pandas Ai Bao and Le Bao, were sent from China to South Korea in 2016 under a 15-year lease agreement. The pair has since given birth to four cubs.<\/p>\n

Over the past decade, China and South Korea have cooperated in giant panda breeding, disease prevention, public education, and related research. The cooperation has achieved positive results in the protection of endangered species.<\/p>\n
