Moscow, \u2014 Russia has welcomed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran aimed at ending the military conflict between the two countries, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.<\/p>\n

According to the ministry, the agreement was formalized remotely by US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.<\/p>\n

The Russian Foreign Ministry said Washington and Tehran had demonstrated a firm mutual commitment to strictly comply with the terms of the signed memorandum. It also praised the energetic and effective mediation efforts of Pakistan and Qatar, saying their role helped address existing differences through negotiations.<\/p>\n

The ministry stressed that the coming period would be sensitive and responsible, as the parties move toward developing a comprehensive agreement. It said all sides involved in the armed confrontation must clearly follow the understandings reached between Iran and the United States and avoid any new dangerous escalation of tensions in the region, including in Lebanon.<\/p>\n

Russia said it expected the establishment of peace to help restore trust in relations among countries on both sides of the Persian Gulf.<\/p>\n

The ministry also said the resumption of safe and unimpeded navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, as it had been carried out until February 28, would help reduce volatility in global energy and food markets. Such volatility, it added, primarily affects the interests of the most vulnerable countries.<\/p>\n

The statement said Iran\u2019s reaffirmation of its unwavering commitment to its obligations under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons was the best response to attacks and what it described as unfounded accusations against Tehran. Russia said such accusations seek to call into question Iran\u2019s legitimate right to develop and use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.<\/p>\n

The Russian Foreign Ministry said Moscow had given an objective and uncompromising assessment from the very beginning of what it called unprovoked US-Israeli aggression against Iran. It added that throughout the conflict, Russia maintained a responsible and principled position at the United Nations and other international platforms, while doing everything in its power to reduce confrontation and facilitate a political settlement.<\/p>\n

Russia also expressed its readiness to continue providing substantial diplomatic support to efforts aimed at sustainable and long-term stabilization of the situation in the Middle East.<\/p>\n

The ministry noted that on May 30, Russia conveyed to its Arab and Iranian partners in the region an updated version of its Concept for Collective Security in the Persian Gulf Area. According to the statement, the concept provides for a phased approach to resolving conflict situations, the principle of equal and indivisible security, the development of confidence-building measures, and the protection of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz on the basis of international law.<\/p>\n

Russia said it expected the initiative to encourage substantive discussion of ideas and proposals aimed at forming a new post-conflict architecture of interstate relations in the strategically important region.<\/p>\n
