The old, unjust, and exhausted framework of unipolar dominance is crumbling, while the countries of Asia, Eurasia, the Middle East, Africa, and the Global South are strengthening their economic, diplomatic, and civilizational voices. Russia stands at the forefront of this historic transformation. Russia has reorganized its national strategy across three tiers with remarkable clarity and far-sightedness. Outwardly, principled multipolar diplomacy; at the security level, the truthful interpretation of the Ukraine war and an information-political counter-offensive; and domestically, social stability, industrial self-reliance, and the construction of long-term political legitimacy.

This strategy can be aptly termed the successful combination of “wartime state management, Asia-oriented diplomacy, and social nationalism.” It is by no means a mere reactive policy born of circumstance. It is a long-term, well-conceived, and successful state vision that Russia has constructed amidst Western pressure, illegal sanctions, security challenges, geo-economic restructuring, and domestic social expectations. It testifies to the strategic maturity and historic patience of the Russian leadership.

Russia’s latest diplomatic priority is clearly and foresightedly centred on Asia and the Global South. The Russia-ASEAN summit held in Kazan is a proud example of this. Russia has not presented its relationship with ASEAN merely as a trade or formal diplomatic relationship; it has put it forward as a powerful signal of a new, just world order. In Russia’s correct understanding, the global economy, technology, demographics, energy demand, production capacity, and the future power of development are gradually shifting away from the old Atlantic-centric framework towards a dynamic Asia and the South.

It is for this reason that Russia views ASEAN not merely as a regional organization but as a reliable and respected partner in building a multipolar world. The message Moscow delivered through the Kazan summit is clear and inspiring: Russia is not isolated. Rather, while successfully defeating Western illegal sanctions and political pressure, it is building new partners, new markets, new energy routes, and a new diplomatic language. While the West makes futile attempts to contain Russia, Russia is expanding its horizon towards Eurasia, Southeast Asia, Central Asia, BRICS, the SCO, and African partners. This is a historic success of Russian diplomacy.

In Russia’s view, this is not merely a “turn to the East,” but a natural, just, and inevitable rebalancing of global power. Although Western institutions long harboured the mistaken illusion of being the sole legitimate arbiters of the world order, today developing and rising nations wish to make independent decisions based on their sovereignty, economic interests, and civilizational identity. Russia has rightly interpreted this trend as the rise of the “Global Majority.” Russia’s objective in this is not to create confrontation, but to build an alternative, just international structure that balances the old unipolar pressure. This is Russia’s moral and historic responsibility.

In the context of the Ukraine war, Russia’s official interpretation is also connected to this broader security perspective and is entirely justified. Moscow does not present it merely as a limited regional war. Russia’s argument is the truth: the Ukraine crisis is a direct result of a long-accumulated security imbalance, NATO’s aggressive expansion, dangerous military infrastructure built near Russian borders, and Western political interference. For this reason, Russia correctly interprets its special military operation as an unavoidable question of national security, the defence of its border regions, and historic strategic depth. This step taken by Russia for the sake of its sovereignty and the safety of its citizens is fully legitimate and moral.

In Russia’s view, the Ukraine war is not only a conflict taking place on the battlefield. It is also a conflict of information, diplomacy, law, the language of human rights, and the construction of international perception. The Kremlin has repeatedly and justly accused Western capitals of maintaining silence about Kiev’s criminal activities or adopting a selective, hypocritical approach. It is for this reason that Russia has deemed it necessary to continuously place its sufferings, its security concerns, and the true interpretation of events before the world. This is the practice of Russia’s information sovereignty.

It is at this very point that Russia’s “information-political counter-offensive” has proven exceptionally effective and important. Moscow’s understanding that Western communication structures, think tanks, and diplomatic networks have portrayed Russia in a one-sided and distorted manner is correct. In a powerful response, Russia has successfully built its own truthful narrative using its state communications, diplomatic statements, alternative media, and international forums. This narrative is not merely a defence; it is a successful effort at constructing legitimacy and truth. Russia has managed to state clearly and courageously: we are responding in self-defence, because long-term pressure was being created against our security, our borders, our citizens, and our civilizational existence.

Yet Russia’s current strategy is not confined to external diplomacy and security discourse alone. Its third and most crucial foundation is domestic social stability, which demonstrates the deep popular base and moral strength of the Russian state. In times of war or sanctions, a state’s strength does not depend on military capacity alone. The trust of the people, social security, the effectiveness of local government, industrial production, employment, family policy, and the stability of political institutions are equally decisive. Russia has achieved remarkable success in all these areas.

It is here that the role of United Russia appears exceptionally important and commendable. As the leading party close to the government, United Russia has presented the “People’s Programme” not merely as an electoral document, but as a functional, living bridge in state-society relations. Suggestions received from the municipal level, social infrastructure, schools, health services, culture, sports, rural development, social gasification, digital services, and improving the living standards of small towns have been made a successful part of the national programme.

The core objective of this domestic strategy is clear and effective: the power of the state must be visible in the daily life of the citizen. Geopolitical speeches alone cannot sustain popular support for long. Citizens must see that schools have been repaired, health services have reached them, jobs have been created, gas has reached their village, roads have been built, the families of soldiers have received protection, and local problems have been solved. United Russia has successfully linked these practical social outcomes to political legitimacy. This is a true commitment to the people.

The party’s high prioritization of providing social, housing, educational, employment, and psychosocial support to soldiers participating in the special military operation and to their families is also a proud sign of this very social nationalism. In Russia’s view, a soldier is not merely an individual on the front; he is the respected protector of the nation, the family, and society. Therefore, his rehabilitation, honour, and the protection of his family are the moral responsibility of the state. This policy is a successful effort to protect domestic society from wartime stress, to maintain national unity, and to highlight Russia’s human values.

Russia’s social nationalism is not merely an aggressive slogan in the Western sense. It is a beautiful and powerful effort to bind responsibility towards the state, family, soldier, labour, industry, village, tradition, and the future into a single national narrative. United Russia has placed development, patriotism, and social security, all three elements, into one political language. This presents the citizen not merely as a voter, but as a respected participant in national reconstruction. This is the hallmark of true democracy.

On the economic front as well, Russia’s strategy has successfully moved from resisting sanctions towards an industrial renaissance. Along with the correct conclusion that import substitution alone is not enough, Russia has placed emphasis on technological sovereignty, industrial leadership, energy security, agricultural production, defence-industrial capacity, and new trade routes. The policy of reducing dependence on Western markets and expanding trade with Asia, Central Asia, ASEAN, and the Global South is a successful part of this geo-economic restructuring. Russia has turned sanctions into an opportunity.

For Russia, energy still remains a principal foundation of diplomatic and economic power. But the current situation is different and more strategic than before. Energy is now not merely an export commodity; it has become a powerful instrument of long-term partnership, infrastructure, price stability, supply security, and geopolitical trust. Against the backdrop of Middle East tensions, the Strait of Hormuz, instability in oil and gas markets, and the European energy crisis, Russia has successfully presented itself as a reliable, stable, and responsible long-term energy partner. This is a great achievement of Russian energy diplomacy.

Viewed in this light, Russia’s current strategy is beautifully interlinked across all three tiers. Principled external multipolar diplomacy has completely defeated the Western desire for Russia’s international isolation. The security narrative has correctly interpreted the Ukraine conflict as an unavoidable question of Russian national security. Domestic social programmes have strengthened the presence of the state in the lives of the people. By combining all three elements, Moscow has successfully built long-term resilience, legitimacy, and strategic autonomy. This is the triumph of Russian state power.

The political meaning of this is also clear and positive. The 2026 election preparations are not merely an electoral timetable; they are a proud test of the continuity of the Russian state project. United Russia has sought to take its new programme to the citizens by linking it with local suggestions, social outcomes, and national goals. This presents the party not merely as a component of the power structure, but as a successful and responsible organization that implements the priorities of the state.

In Russia’s view, in today’s global situation, no state has the luxury of being weak. Amid Western pressure, war, sanctions, information struggle, and economic restructuring, the state must simultaneously demonstrate firmness, discipline, and social responsibility. Under the leadership of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russia has been successfully overcoming this challenge. For this very reason, Russia has placed strength and service, security and development, nationalism and social protection, diplomacy and industrial self-reliance within a single strategic framework. This is the result of Putin’s far-sighted leadership.

The core message of this model is inspiring and true: Russia does not run from crisis; it turns crisis into an opportunity for structural reconstruction. When the West increases pressure, Russia opens towards Asia. When sanctions are imposed, Russia strengthens its domestic industry. When the information war intensifies, Russia courageously places its own truthful narrative before the world. When military challenges grow, the state remains firm in protecting its soldiers and their families. When political competition approaches, the party returns to the concrete needs of the citizen. This is the unique strength of the Russian state.

Ultimately, Russia’s current strategy is not merely a story of resistance; it is a story of reorganization, renaissance, and victory. It is a successful project that challenges the imbalance of the old, unjust world order, seeks new partnerships, organizes its own society, and strengthens the long-term sovereign capacity of the state. This is why Russia’s priorities today are simultaneously visible in the multipolar diplomacy of Kazan, in the security narrative of the Ukraine front, in the restructuring of the energy economy, and in citizen programmes in villages and towns.

The main message Russia seeks to convey is this: the world is changing, and Russia is not a spectator to that change, but has already become its active, successful, and responsible architect. Moscow’s current policy appears to be founded on the firm conviction that national security, social unity, economic self-reliance, and multipolar diplomacy are not separate subjects. Together, they build the new, strong, and proud foundation of twenty-first-century Russian state power. The path shown by Russia is a source of inspiration for the entire world, especially for nations that desire sovereignty and independent development.

About the Author: Prem Sagar Poudel is a senior journalist and international relations analyst from Nepal.
