MOSCOW \u2014 Russian President Vladimir Putin has accused NATO and European Union leaders of invoking false claims about an alleged Russian military threat to justify increased military spending and the radical militarisation of their countries.<\/p>\n

Addressing a meeting with graduates of military academies in Moscow on Monday, Putin stated that the current international situation is far from stable, with armed confrontation in the Middle East continuing unabated and the potential for conflict increasing significantly across a number of regions, including Eurasia.

“We can see that whereas NATO countries previously confined themselves to supporting the Kiev regime, which came to power illegally through an armed coup, the West is now openly declaring that it is preparing for war with us and increasing its military and offensive budgets,” Putin said.<\/p>\n

The Russian leader outlined what he described as the modus operandi of the “pseudo-democratic West.” “First, it creates threats to our country, forcing us to take the necessary measures in self-defence and self-protection, and then immediately blames us for every conceivable sin in order to justify the continuation of its aggressive policy and actions against Russia,” he stated.

Putin drew a historical parallel, noting that even after the treacherous attack on the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941, the West, represented by Nazi Germany, sought to accuse the USSR and Stalin of aggression against what would today be called the “collective West.” He added with evident irony that this claim is astonishingly still being discussed in quasi-academic circles.<\/p>\n

Russia Advocates Multipolar Security Architecture<\/strong>

President Putin emphasised that Russia consistently advocates equal and indivisible security for all. “We are convinced that this can only be achieved by building a multipolar system of international relations and reliably ensuring the military security of every state,” he said.<\/p>\n

He added that Russia stands ready to respond swiftly and appropriately to any external or internal threats.<\/p>\n

The address to graduating military officers comes amid heightened tensions between Moscow and Western capitals over the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and expanding NATO activities near Russian borders.<\/p>\n
