Kathmandu. The Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation, known as the SVR, has alleged that Ukrainian security structures are deliberately facilitating the transit of drugs from Latin America to Europe. The SVR Press Bureau said, citing information it had received, that drug flows toward Europe through Ukraine are increasing.<\/p>\n

According to the SVR, Ukraine\u2019s leadership is seeking additional sources of revenue. Russia claims that, as Western sponsors are becoming less able to meet Kyiv\u2019s growing demands, the Ukrainian side is trying to benefit from links with illegal criminal networks. The SVR also alleged that Latin American criminal groups have assisted in recruiting foreign mercenaries for the Ukrainian armed forces.<\/p>\n

The Russian side said major Latin American drug cartels are looking for new routes into the European market as anti-drug campaigns intensify in the United States. According to the SVR, these groups view Ukraine as a relatively safe corridor into Europe because of weak border and customs controls under wartime conditions.<\/p>\n

The Russian intelligence service further claimed that ports in Ukraine\u2019s Odessa region are becoming a key transshipment hub for drugs moving toward Europe through Poland, Moldova and Romania. However, this claim has not been independently verified by international institutions or neutral investigative bodies.<\/p>\n

The SVR also alleged that Latin American criminal groups are interested in gaining access to Ukraine\u2019s black market for weapons. From Moscow\u2019s perspective, this reflects a dangerous connection between war, corruption, weak state controls and international criminal networks.<\/p>\n

The allegation comes at a time when international agencies have warned that instability, conflict and weak control systems can create new opportunities for transnational criminal groups. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime has also noted that global drug markets are changing rapidly as traffickers exploit new routes, technologies and unstable security environments.<\/p>\n

For Russia, the issue shows that the Ukraine conflict is not limited to the military battlefield. Moscow argues that the war is also affecting European security, border management, organised crime, drug trafficking and illegal arms networks. However, given the seriousness of the accusation, independent investigation, verifiable evidence and formal responses from the concerned parties remain necessary.<\/p>\n
