Derong. Derong County, located in the high plateau region of western China, has been promoting rural revitalization by developing its grape industry based on local geographical and climatic advantages.<\/p>\n

The county has developed two major specialty industries: wine grapes in Punsum Township and table grapes in the Keshod area. These two sectors complement each other and have helped transform plateau resources into drivers of industrial development, local officials said.<\/p>\n

According to local sources, the development of the grape industry has simultaneously promoted rural economic activity, employment, farmers\u2019 income and modern agricultural practices. Thanks to abundant plateau sunshine, a clean environment and distinctive climate conditions, grapes produced in Derong are regarded as high quality.<\/p>\n

In 2024, Ganzi Xigao Grape Planting Co., Ltd. established a standardized wine grape cultivation base covering more than 1,400 mu in Punsum Township. The company selected multiple high-quality grape varieties and introduced modern smart agricultural systems, including intelligent irrigation, rainfall monitoring, and disease and pest prevention.<\/p>\n

This has helped transform traditional cultivation into scientific, standardized and refined modern agriculture. This year, the company continued to expand its cultivation area and improve quality by adding 519 mu of transferred farmland in Namda and Khasal villages of Cheyul Township. As a result, the foundation of the wine grape industry has been further expanded.<\/p>\n

Since the project began, the grape cultivation base has provided 12 stable year-round jobs and has created more than 35,000 person-times of temporary and seasonal employment. The company has also purchased more than 9,000 cubic meters of household organic fertilizer from local farmers, contributing more than 5 million yuan to local income growth.<\/p>\n

Local residents said the project has allowed them to earn income near their homes while also taking care of their families. Residents such as Tenzin Chodrak and Buleg from Namda Village have worked at the grape base for a long time. They have not only increased their income but have also learned professional skills in grape planting, pruning, management and crop protection. This has laid a stronger foundation for them to develop the industry independently in the future.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in Peyang Village of Keshod, located at an altitude of about 2,450 meters, an organic grape industrial park has prioritized clean and pollution-free cultivation techniques. The Chalung Organic Agriculture Development Company in Ganzi has adopted natural production methods, including no chemical fertilizers, no pesticides, manual weeding, solar-powered pest control and ecological disease prevention.<\/p>\n

The organic grape park covers 100 mu of land. The company pays local residents a stable annual land rental income at a rate of 2,000 yuan per mu. More than 40 households are able to find employment there each year, with workers earning an average daily income of 120 yuan.<\/p>\n

From 2023 to 2025, the industrial park increased local residents\u2019 income by about 2 million yuan. This shows that the grape industry is not limited to agricultural production alone, but is also connected to land rental income, labor employment, skills training and the local economic cycle.<\/p>\n

So far, the total grape cultivation area in Derong County has reached 7,242 mu. A total of 911 households are involved in the development of the grape industry, with each household seeing an average annual income increase of 15,000 yuan.<\/p>\n

Highland grapes have now become a key industry for Derong County, linking ecological resources, economic growth and rural revitalization. The local government said it will continue to expand the scale, quality, productivity and economic benefits of the grape industry, opening a new path toward rural prosperity and common prosperity.<\/p>\n

Derong\u2019s experience shows that rural economies can be strengthened when local climate, geography and ecological resources are used effectively. Grape cultivation has not only increased farmers\u2019 income, but has also injected new momentum into modern agriculture, organic production, local employment and rural revitalization.<\/p>\n
