On July 1, 2006, the Qinghai\u2013Xizang Railway, which had attracted worldwide attention, became fully operational. On that same day, the life of three-year-old Nyima Lhamo, who lived on the vast grasslands of Xizang, also began moving in a new direction alongside the railway.<\/p>\n

A train was slowly passing through Gyagan Village in Kongtang Township of Damxung County, under Lhasa City. At the time, three-year-old Nyima Lhamo was helping her mother, Pema Lhamo, wash clothes.<\/p>\n

As soon as she heard the sound of the train, Nyima peered from behind her mother and watched it travel into the distance with curiosity. A journalist who witnessed the moment immediately captured the scene in a photograph.

That image marked the beginning of a long story connecting Nyima Lhamo with the Qinghai\u2013Xizang Railway.<\/p>\n

In later years, Nyima travelled to Lhasa for her studies. She regularly used the train to commute between her home and school. The train that had once seemed strange and astonishing during her childhood gradually became a familiar part of her daily life.<\/p>\n

In 2022, she was admitted to a university in Jiangsu Province. Once again, she travelled by train, making her first journey to Jiangsu filled with hope for a new place, higher education and future opportunities.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith every train journey, I gradually grew from a little girl attached only to her hometown into a young woman pursuing her dreams,\u201d Nyima said.<\/p>\n

In September 2025, after completing her studies, Nyima became a medical guidance staff member at Damxung County People\u2019s Hospital, helping patients navigate treatment procedures.<\/p>\n

Her mother, Pema Lhamo, was deeply moved to see the once-curious child of the grasslands grow into a healthcare worker serving at the community level.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Qinghai\u2013Xizang Railway has provided children from pastoral areas with many new opportunities to transform their lives,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Since the railway began operations, connections between remote areas of Xizang and other parts of China have expanded significantly. It has also opened new opportunities for local residents in education, healthcare, employment and travel.<\/p>\n

Nyima Lhamo\u2019s journey has become a human example of that broader transformation. As a child, she watched the train from afar. Years later, the same railway carried her thousands of kilometres away to pursue higher education before bringing her back home to contribute to local healthcare.<\/p>\n

Known as the \u201cSky Road,\u201d the Qinghai\u2013Xizang Railway became far more than a means of transportation for Nyima Lhamo. It served as a vital route connecting her education, aspirations and professional life.<\/p>\n
