China\u2019s zero-tariff treatment for products from 53 African countries with which it maintains diplomatic relations goes beyond commercial benefits and reflects Beijing\u2019s longstanding commitment to shared development, more inclusive economic globalization, and cooperation based on mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, according to a Nigerien expert.<\/p>\n

Amadou Magagi, an expert at the Niger Chamber of Commerce and Industry, told Xinhua that the policy gives concrete expression to commitments made under the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation to support Africa\u2019s industrialization, strengthen the continent\u2019s participation in global value chains and create more opportunities for African businesses.<\/p>\n

According to Magagi, the policy also contributes to building a China-Africa community with a shared future, in which the prosperity of one side can become a driving force for the development of the other.<\/p>\n

He said the measure strengthens mutual trust and opens a new chapter in China-Africa economic relations.<\/p>\n

Growing African Interest in the Chinese Market<\/strong><\/p>\n

Magagi said the zero-tariff arrangement has generated growing interest among African businesses in the Chinese market and strengthened investor confidence in the prospects for China-Africa economic cooperation.<\/p>\n

The sectors expected to benefit most include modern agriculture, agro-processing, processed food products, livestock industries, textiles and garments, forestry products, processed natural resources and light manufacturing with higher added value.<\/p>\n

In the medium and long term, he said, the policy is expected to help improve the structure and quality of African exports and promote the development of regional value chains capable of meeting the requirements of the Chinese market.<\/p>\n

An \u2018Exceptional Strategic Opportunity\u2019 for Niger<\/strong><\/p>\n

Magagi described China\u2019s zero-tariff policy as an \u201cexceptional strategic opportunity\u201d for Niger.<\/p>\n

He noted that Niger has abundant agricultural, livestock and mineral resources, as well as considerable potential in sesame, peanuts, cowpeas, gum arabic, tiger nuts, livestock products and other goods with potential for higher value-added production.<\/p>\n

Preferential access to the vast Chinese market could help increase Niger\u2019s exports, encourage more domestic processing of raw materials and create additional employment, he said.<\/p>\n

A Message in Favor of Open Trade<\/strong><\/p>\n

At a time of growing trade tensions, geopolitical uncertainty and renewed protectionism in some parts of the world, Magagi said the policy sends a strong message reaffirming China\u2019s commitment to free trade, economic openness, multilateral cooperation and common development.<\/p>\n

He described the outlook for China-Africa economic and trade cooperation as highly promising.<\/p>\n

In his view, the zero-tariff policy represents an important step toward a new generation of economic cooperation that places greater emphasis on productive investment, industrial transformation, infrastructure development, innovation, digital transformation and capacity building.<\/p>\n

Need to Strengthen Production and Processing Capacity<\/strong><\/p>\n

Magagi said African countries will need to strengthen their own production and industrial processing capacity in order to maximize the benefits of the policy.<\/p>\n

He called for improvements in product quality, standardization and certification to meet Chinese market requirements, as well as greater investment in logistics infrastructure, ports and trade corridors.<\/p>\n

He also emphasized the importance of further facilitating customs procedures, expanding industrial investment and cooperation between Chinese and African enterprises, and deepening collaboration in skills development, innovation, the digital economy and vocational training.<\/p>\n

China\u2019s zero-tariff policy for 53 African countries is therefore being viewed not only as a measure that can make African products more competitive in the Chinese market, but also as an opportunity to support production, processing, employment and broader industrial development across the continent.<\/p>\n
