Former Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba has expressed confidence that he will receive justice from the Supreme Court in the dispute over the party\u2019s official legitimacy.<\/p>\n

Speaking to journalists at his residence in Maharajgunj on Saturday, Deuba said it would not be appropriate to comment extensively on the issue because the dispute surrounding the party\u2019s special general convention and official recognition is currently under consideration by the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was not in favour of the special general convention, and I did not see any need for it. A case has also been filed in the Supreme Court. Since the matter is sub judice, it would not be appropriate to say much. I believe the court will deliver justice,\u201d Deuba said.<\/p>\n

The dispute over the official leadership of the Nepali Congress emerged following the special general convention. The Election Commission recognised the working committee led by Gagan Kumar Thapa, which was elected through the special convention, as the official leadership of the party.<\/p>\n

The Supreme Court had earlier upheld the Election Commission\u2019s decision. Deuba\u2019s faction subsequently sought a review of that ruling, and the dispute has now returned to judicial consideration after the Supreme Court allowed the review process to proceed.<\/p>\n

Deuba\u2019s remarks indicate that he intends to avoid further political comment on the matter until the court reaches a final decision.<\/p>\n

During the interaction with journalists, Deuba also emphasised the importance of press freedom and independent journalism, describing both as essential to democracy.<\/p>\n

He said the protection of a free press remains a fundamental requirement of a democratic political system.<\/p>\n

Deuba also reflected on his long political association with Sudurpaschim Province, saying he remained grateful to the people of the region for the support they had extended to him throughout his political career.<\/p>\n

\u201cWherever I may be, there are still some things I have to complete in Sudurpaschim. The people of Sudurpaschim have supported me, and I am grateful to them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Deuba, who has represented Sudurpaschim in national politics for decades, indicated that his sense of responsibility toward the region would continue even though he is no longer serving as party president.<\/p>\n

On the Nepali Congress legitimacy dispute, however, he maintained that the matter should now be left to the judicial process, reiterating his confidence that the Supreme Court would deliver justice.<\/p>\n
