China has urged Taiwan\u2019s Democratic Progressive Party authorities not to create unnecessary obstacles to travel, employment, youth exchanges and commercial contacts across the Taiwan Strait.<\/p>\n

Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks at a press conference on Wednesday in response to recent measures taken by the Taiwan authorities to restrict or discourage exchanges with the Chinese mainland.<\/p>\n

Addressing concerns raised by Taiwan\u2019s Mainland Affairs Council over new mainland entry and exit regulations, Zhu said Taiwan residents travelling to or working on the mainland had no reason to be concerned.<\/p>\n

She said the regulations are intended mainly to improve the management of security risks related to outbound travel and to ensure that information provided in entry and exit applications is truthful and lawful.<\/p>\n

According to Zhu, the rules are also designed to protect the legitimate rights and interests of people involved in cross-Strait exchanges and to provide a clearer legal environment for Taiwan residents visiting the mainland.<\/p>\n

Taiwan authorities, however, have continued to assess mainland legal and administrative measures in terms of potential risks to the security and rights of Taiwan residents.<\/p>\n

The disagreement has also extended to a mainland public service platform aimed at young people from Taiwan.<\/p>\n

Taiwan authorities have expressed concern that the platform could be used to collect personal information or serve political purposes. Zhu rejected those claims, saying the platform was intended to provide information and services related to education, employment and development opportunities.<\/p>\n

She said young people from Taiwan should have the right to decide where they pursue studies, employment and future opportunities, adding that closer people-to-people exchanges across the Strait could not be stopped.<\/p>\n

The press conference also addressed a dispute involving Chinese motorcycle manufacturer ZXMOTO.<\/p>\n

Zhu criticized the seizure by Taiwan authorities of a motorcycle assembled on the island using components from a mainland-made ZXMOTO model, describing the move as an example of restrictions on mainland products entering the Taiwan market.<\/p>\n

Under existing Taiwan regulations, complete heavy motorcycles and engines manufactured on the Chinese mainland are prohibited from entering Taiwan.<\/p>\n

Interest in ZXMOTO has increased in Taiwan following the performance of its 820RR-RS racing motorcycle, which won two races during the Portuguese round of the World Supersport competition earlier this year.<\/p>\n

ZXMOTO founder Zhang Xue has previously expressed interest in opening a retail outlet in Taiwan. Taiwan authorities, however, have not indicated support for such market entry under the current regulatory framework.<\/p>\n

The latest developments show that cross-Strait tensions are no longer confined to political and security issues. They increasingly extend to travel, employment, youth exchanges, personal information and consumer markets.<\/p>\n

Beijing continues to emphasize the expansion of people-to-people and economic exchanges, while Taipei has adopted a more cautious approach based on concerns over security, legal exposure and political influence.<\/p>\n

As a result, the scope of cross-Strait policy disputes is increasingly affecting not only government-level relations but also the mobility and economic opportunities available to ordinary citizens, young people and businesses.<\/p>\n
