Nepal Eye Hospital, Tripureshwor, has provided free eye examinations to 1,226 people through camps organized at Nakkhu Prison, the Gurudwara in Kupondole and the Ageing Care Center in Sukedhara, Kathmandu.<\/p>\n

According to the hospital\u2019s Chief Executive Officer Dharma Raj Gosain, prisoners, detainees, prison staff, senior citizens and members of the general public received eye examinations along with free medicines and eyeglasses where necessary.<\/p>\n

At Nakkhu Prison alone, 907 people underwent eye examinations. An eight-member medical team, including specialists, identified cataracts in 20 people, while 421 received eye medicines. The hospital said those diagnosed with cataracts would undergo free surgery in coordination with the prison administration.<\/p>\n

A total of 146 prisoners who were found to have difficulty reading and writing were provided with free eyeglasses and medicines. Another 92 people who could not be treated at the camp were referred to Nepal Eye Hospital for further examination and treatment.<\/p>\n

The hospital\u2019s technical team also conducted an awareness session for prisoners, detainees and employees on eye health, safety and proper care.<\/p>\n

Nepal Eye Hospital has agreements with the Central Jail, Nakkhu Prison and Dillibazar Prison to provide eye-care services to prisoners, detainees and staff.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, a free eye camp organized at the Gurudwara in Kupondole with the facilitation of Lions Club of Nilbarahi and Lalitpur Metropolitan City Ward No. 10 examined 214 people. Cataracts were detected in eight participants.<\/p>\n

At the camp, 100 people received free reading glasses, 141 were provided with medicines and 19 were referred to the hospital for further treatment.<\/p>\n

Another free eye camp held at the Ageing Care Center in Sukedhara, Kathmandu, examined 105 people. Cataracts were detected in nine residents of the center and five members of the local community.<\/p>\n

A total of 22 people from the center and surrounding community were also provided with free reading glasses.<\/p>\n

The Sukedhara camp was inaugurated by Rajaram Shrestha, a member of the Nepal Eye Hospital executive committee and former mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.<\/p>\n
