Russia\u2019s Foreign Intelligence Service, the SVR, has claimed that German investigators are seriously examining a possible \u201cUkrainian angle\u201d in the case involving an explosives-equipped drone discovered at Leipzig\/Halle Airport. German authorities, however, have not publicly confirmed the involvement of either Ukraine or Russia.<\/p>\n

The drone was reportedly discovered on August 4 in a secured area of Leipzig\/Halle Airport near Ukrainian Antonov cargo aircraft. It was said to have been fitted with commercial-grade explosives and a detonating mechanism. Given the seriousness of the incident, Germany\u2019s Federal Prosecutor\u2019s Office has taken over the investigation.<\/p>\n

In a statement issued on Monday, the SVR claimed that Kyiv was highly satisfied with the political and media impact generated by the incident. According to the Russian intelligence service, German investigators are considering several possible scenarios, including potential Ukrainian involvement, although such a possibility has not been publicly confirmed by German authorities.<\/p>\n

The SVR accused some German politicians and European media outlets of linking the incident to Russia before preliminary investigative findings had been established. It argued that the case was being used to reinforce perceptions of Russia as a security threat to Europe and to generate additional political support for military assistance to Ukraine.<\/p>\n

The Russian agency also suggested that another possible objective could have been to weaken public support for German political forces advocating a more pragmatic policy toward Moscow. These claims have not been independently verified.<\/p>\n

According to information made public by the German side, the drone carried commercial explosives and a triggering device. The Federal Prosecutor\u2019s Office is investigating the case on suspicion of attempted detonation of explosives and serious interference with air traffic.<\/p>\n

German media have also reported that investigators recovered biological traces and equipment that may have been intended to strengthen or relay a signal. Security agencies are reportedly examining possible similarities with explosive parcel incidents that targeted European air cargo networks in 2024. Western security services have previously alleged possible links between those earlier incidents and Russian intelligence structures.<\/p>\n

The Leipzig case has therefore become the subject of competing political narratives. Russia is publicly raising the possibility of Ukrainian involvement, while German security circles are also examining whether the incident could be connected to earlier suspected Russian sabotage operations.<\/p>\n

At present, however, there is insufficient publicly available evidence to conclusively attribute responsibility to any side. Germany\u2019s Federal Prosecutor\u2019s Office continues to investigate the incident as a serious national security case.<\/p>\n
