China\u2019s electric vehicle charging infrastructure continued to expand rapidly, with the total number of charging points reaching 23.68 million by the end of July 2026.<\/p>\n

According to the National Energy Administration, the figure was up 41.9 percent year on year.<\/p>\n

Of the total, public charging facilities reached 5.099 million, an increase of 21.3 percent from a year earlier. Private charging points expanded much faster, rising 48.8 percent to 18.58 million.<\/p>\n

The rapid growth of charging infrastructure has come alongside another surge in sales of new-energy vehicles, or NEVs.<\/p>\n

In July, China produced more than 1.57 million NEVs and sold more than 1.56 million, representing year-on-year increases of 26.8 percent and 23.7 percent, respectively.<\/p>\n

NEVs accounted for more than 60 percent of all new vehicle sales in China during July for the first time, highlighting the accelerating shift away from conventional internal-combustion vehicles in the world\u2019s largest automobile market.<\/p>\n

China is also expanding its charging network to keep pace with future demand. Under a three-year action plan announced in October 2025, the country aims to establish 28 million charging facilities nationwide by the end of 2027, with public charging capacity exceeding 300 million kilowatts.<\/p>\n

The network is expected to support more than 80 million electric vehicles.<\/p>\n

China has also set a target of increasing the share of NEVs in the country\u2019s total vehicle fleet to around 30 percent by 2030.<\/p>\n

The simultaneous expansion of charging infrastructure, vehicle production and sales reflects China\u2019s broader transition toward an increasingly electrified transport system and reduced dependence on fossil fuels.<\/p>\n
