Nearly 50 young scholars and experts from China, the United States and other countries gathered in Nanjing on Monday for a dialogue aimed at strengthening people-to-people exchanges and promoting practical cooperation between China and the United States.<\/p>\n

The event, held in Nanjing, capital of east China\u2019s Jiangsu Province, was themed \u201cReshaping the Geoeconomic Landscape: Managing Differences and Advancing Global Development.\u201d<\/p>\n

Discussions focused on changes in globalization, industrial transformation, technology governance, China-U.S. strategic interactions and the evolving regional order.<\/p>\n

Yu Yunquan, vice president of China International Communications Group, said China-U.S. relations remain one of the most important bilateral relationships in the world and that people-to-people exchanges provide an important social foundation for those ties.<\/p>\n

He expressed hope that a stable and predictable dialogue mechanism could help intellectual communities in both countries maintain communication, seek common ground despite differences and preserve rational engagement amid rapid international change.<\/p>\n

Yu said such exchanges could enhance mutual understanding between Chinese and American societies, strengthen non-governmental ties and contribute to a constructive bilateral relationship based on strategic stability.<\/p>\n

Christopher Hobbs, deputy director of peace strategy and operations at the Carter Center\u2019s peace program, also emphasized the importance of continuing people-to-people dialogue.<\/p>\n

He said bringing academics and policymakers together can help participants better understand different perspectives in a constructive way and reduce the risk of unnecessary conflict.<\/p>\n

Hobbs said the goal should be to ensure that, regardless of how international circumstances evolve, relations are placed on a more positive trajectory.<\/p>\n

Scholars attending the event noted that the global landscape is changing rapidly and that China-U.S. relations are becoming increasingly complex.<\/p>\n

They also stressed that global challenges such as climate change and artificial intelligence governance require cooperation among countries, particularly between China and the United States.<\/p>\n

The Nanjing event marked the third edition of the youth dialogue on promoting China-U.S. people-to-people exchanges.<\/p>\n

The platform was established to bring together young scholars and experts for discussions based on their professional research and policy expertise.<\/p>\n

It was jointly launched in 2024 by the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies under China International Communications Group and the Carter Center in the United States.<\/p>\n

Against the backdrop of growing competition between China and the United States in trade, technology, industrial policy and strategic affairs, the dialogue is intended to preserve channels of academic and non-governmental communication.<\/p>\n

Organizers hope the mechanism can help young experts, researchers and policy communities continue direct engagement, manage differences and identify areas where practical cooperation remains possible.<\/p>\n
