The devastating flood that came from the China side has caused extensive damage to road infrastructure along the Trishuli River and surrounding areas. According to the Department of Roads, around 55 kilometres of roads and 35 bridges in Dhading, Nuwakot and Rasuwa have been completely damaged, with preliminary infrastructure losses estimated at about Rs 30 billion.<\/p>\n

The government has accelerated emergency reconstruction, new track opening and Bailey bridge installation to restore blocked highways and strategic roads. The Department of Roads said priority has been given to opening alternative tracks and installing temporary bridges at locations where permanent bridges were swept away.<\/p>\n

At Devighat in Bidur, Nuwakot, the Nepal Army has begun installing a temporary bridge after the flood washed away the existing permanent structure. Department of Roads spokesperson Shubharaj Neupane said the department is constructing the necessary civil structures, while the Nepal Army is handling the technical installation.<\/p>\n

A 60-metre Acrow bridge is being installed over the Tadi River at Devighat. The Bhotekoshi flood on Bhadra 10 swept away the approximately 55-metre permanent bridge at the site. The temporary bridge is being installed using the abutments of the former structure. Once completed, it is expected to improve access toward Rasuwa.<\/p>\n

Preparations are also underway to install Bailey bridges immediately at Trishuli Bazaar and Betravati. Preliminary assessments indicate that bridges of around 48 metres will be required at those locations. Of the 35 damaged bridges, authorities plan to install temporary bridges at three priority locations to reopen the Galchhi\u2013Trishuli\u2013Syafrubesi\u2013Rasuwagadhi road.<\/p>\n

In Syafrubesi, Rasuwa, another bridge was washed away, creating the need for a Bailey bridge approximately 75 metres long. Although the Department of Roads and the Nepal Army have the required bridge materials, transporting them remains difficult because lower sections of the road are still blocked. Installation will begin as soon as road access is restored.<\/p>\n

According to the department, Bailey bridge components provided by the Chinese government at the Korala border point are also expected to be transported and used at Rasuwagadhi or other damaged locations according to need. Neupane said the immediate challenge is restoring road access to the sites where the bridges must be installed.<\/p>\n

Large quantities of mud, gravel and debris, in some places three to four metres deep, have accumulated along sections of the old road, making rapid restoration difficult. The department has therefore planned a temporary alternative route up to Betravati, although work has been delayed in Bidur Municipality\u201310 following objections from local residents.<\/p>\n

Residents have demanded compensation after authorities proposed using sections of agricultural land to open the temporary track. The department says that if the dispute is resolved, road access to Betravati could be restored within two days. Reaching Betravati would also make access toward Dhunche considerably easier.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, flood erosion at Krishnabhir has damaged the Prithvi Highway, prompting authorities to cut into the hillside and open a new track. With technical advice from the Nepal Geotechnical Society, authorities are preparing a track between 5.5 and eight metres wide.<\/p>\n

Excavation of a 252-metre section at Krishnabhir has already been completed, allowing construction machinery to move through the area. The Department of Roads said regular vehicle movement could resume after several more days of repair and upgrading.<\/p>\n

Repair work is also underway at Parewabhir in Gajuri Rural Municipality\u20132 of Dhading, another section of the Prithvi Highway damaged by the flood. Vehicle movement has been completely suspended along the section to accelerate restoration work.<\/p>\n
