Chinese companies have emerged as a major presence at IFA 2026 in Berlin, showcasing advances in artificial intelligence, robotics and smart home appliances designed to turn futuristic concepts into products for everyday use.<\/p>\n

One of the most striking moments at the exhibition involved a robot vacuum made by Chinese company Ecovacs. A visitor unexpectedly poured ketchup onto the exhibition floor to test whether the machine could handle a real-world mess rather than a carefully staged demonstration.<\/p>\n

The robot quickly detected the spill, moved across the red stain and cleaned it, prompting nearby visitors to take out their phones and record the moment while praising its performance.<\/p>\n

Similar demonstrations could be seen throughout Messe Berlin, where robots climbed stairs, mowed lawns and cleaned windows, while humanoid machines demonstrated how they could eventually sort laundry and assist with household tasks.<\/p>\n

China\u2019s presence at the exhibition is visible even before visitors enter the venue. Large advertisements from Haier, Midea, Xiaomi and Dreame dominate areas around Messe Berlin, while brands including TCL, Haier and Xiaomi occupy major exhibition spaces inside.<\/p>\n

According to German broadcaster rbb24, 928 companies from the Chinese mainland are exhibiting at IFA this year, along with 84 exhibitors from Hong Kong. By comparison, Germany has 201 exhibitors, while Japan, once a dominant force in the global consumer electronics industry, has only five.<\/p>\n

A major focus of Chinese exhibitors is reducing the need for direct human intervention in household cleaning and maintenance.<\/p>\n

Ecovacs\u2019 DEEBOT X12S, the robot that passed the unexpected ketchup test, is designed to handle difficult stains through a more targeted cleaning process. For dried sauces and greasy kitchen residue, it first sprays cleaning solution to loosen the stain before its roller removes it, reducing the need for manual follow-up cleaning.<\/p>\n

Roborock has also presented technologies aimed at making cleaning robots more autonomous. Its exhibition lineup includes a wheeled-legged robot vacuum capable of cleaning stairs, robotic lawn mowers and the company\u2019s first pool-cleaning robot.<\/p>\n

The company says artificial intelligence is increasingly important in allowing robotic lawn mowers to manage an entire yard, including precise edge trimming and adaptation to different types of terrain.<\/p>\n

Dreame, meanwhile, showcased its T16 Pro Steam floor washer, which combines steam of up to 200 degrees Celsius, 90-degree hot-water cleaning and 30,000 Pa suction in a body just 9.85 centimetres thick.<\/p>\n

The device is designed to remove grease and stubborn stains, disinfect floors and reach beneath furniture and other difficult spaces. It also uses steam and hot water for self-cleaning after operation.<\/p>\n

A Forbes China report released alongside the exhibition said Chinese companies occupied the top five positions globally by market share in the latest fiscal year.<\/p>\n

In the window-cleaning robot segment, five Chinese companies \u2014 Ecovacs, Hobot, Dreame, Roborock and Xiaomi \u2014 together accounted for more than 70 percent of the global market, according to industry data cited in the report.<\/p>\n

Chinese companies are also increasingly integrating AI directly into household appliances.<\/p>\n

Haier displayed a refrigerator capable of identifying the type and quantity of food stored inside and automatically selecting an appropriate preservation method. The company also showcased humanoid robots, cleaning robots, companion robots and an AI-powered exoskeleton.<\/p>\n

Chinese smart-home robotics company Narwal presented its NarMind intelligent scene-perception system, which uses two high-definition cameras and an automotive-grade computing chip.<\/p>\n

The system is designed to allow robot vacuums not only to recognise objects but also to understand their surroundings. It can identify and avoid pet-related messes, reduce noise in areas used by infants and children, and select different cleaning strategies depending on the type of stain.<\/p>\n

Another Chinese company, MagicLab Robotics, demonstrated an integrated system combining robotic hardware, a physical AI \u201cbrain\u201d and real-world deployment capabilities.<\/p>\n

Targeting the European enterprise market, the company is focusing on flexible material handling and logistics sorting, illustrating how physical AI is moving beyond demonstrations and into practical industrial applications.<\/p>\n

Leif Lindner, CEO of IFA Management, said China has increasingly focused on making innovation more sustainable while responding to market demand and improving product design and durability.<\/p>\n

According to industry observers, the strong Chinese presence at IFA reflects a broader transformation of China\u2019s consumer electronics industry from being primarily a manufacturing base to becoming a major force in the development of integrated smart technology ecosystems.<\/p>\n

China\u2019s large manufacturing network, mature supply chains and growing capabilities in AI, robotics and original product development are helping shorten the time required to move technologies from laboratories into homes, factories and other real-world environments.<\/p>\n

The trend is also expanding access to smart technologies beyond China. Analysts say rapid production, lower costs and supply-chain cooperation could make advanced home robotics and AI-powered appliances more accessible not only to European consumers but also to developing markets around the world.<\/p>\n
