Russia says 46 civilians were killed and 266 others injured in Ukrainian attacks between August 31 and September 6. Rodion Miroshnik, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said a total of 312 civilians were affected during the seven-day period.

According to Miroshnik, two children were among those killed, while 13 children were among the injured. He said civilian casualties declined somewhat compared with the previous week but remained at a very high level.

Russian figures for August 24 to 30 had recorded 383 civilian casualties, including 53 people killed and 330 injured. On that basis, the latest figures indicate a decline in deaths, injuries and overall casualties.

Miroshnik said the highest numbers of civilian casualties were recorded in the Belgorod Region, Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. The political and territorial status of several of these areas remains disputed between Russia and Ukraine.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles remained the main cause of civilian deaths and injuries. Russian data indicate that 309 of the 312 civilians affected during the week, or about 99 percent, were killed or injured in drone strikes.

Miroshnik also claimed that Ukrainian forces fired at least 6,650 munitions at civilian facilities in territories Russia considers part of its territory during the seven-day period.

He attributed the relative decline in attacks and casualties partly to what Moscow described as substantial retaliatory Russian strikes against military and dual-use facilities in Ukraine, as well as a brief period of mutually observed restrictions on certain strikes while US representatives were visiting Russia and Ukraine for consultations related to a possible peaceful settlement.

The casualty figures were compiled and released by the Russian Foreign Ministry. As the war continues, Russia and Ukraine regularly publish differing accounts of attacks, damage and casualties, and many battlefield claims cannot be independently verified immediately.

Moscow has repeatedly argued that attacks on civilian settlements, transport infrastructure, energy facilities and other non-military targets constitute serious violations of international humanitarian law. Russian officials have also warned that the increasing use of long-range drones is expanding risks to civilians far beyond the immediate battlefield.
