For foreigners seeking to work, study, launch businesses or build long-term lives in China, the capital is increasingly becoming an important center of opportunity and inclusion.<\/p>\n

Beijing\u2019s growing international appeal is not limited to its skyline, industrial development or economic scale. The experiences of foreign entrepreneurs show that a combination of supportive policies, public services, technological infrastructure, market access and social acceptance is encouraging them to build long-term careers and businesses in China. Young entrepreneurs from different countries are increasingly choosing Beijing as a base for innovation, business development and international cooperation.<\/p>\n

American entrepreneur Gavin Cooley first came to Beijing out of curiosity about China. He visited the country in 2016 for a language program and continued returning to study Chinese language and society. For higher education, he chose Peking University over leading universities in the United States. While studying, he realized that aspects of everyday Chinese life, including rapid food delivery, mobile payments and high-speed rail, could strongly interest overseas audiences when presented from a foreign perspective.<\/p>\n

Cooley began producing content about daily life in China and eventually gained more than three million followers on Chinese social-media platforms. After graduation, he founded a cultural company that helps Chinese brands enter overseas markets while also assisting foreign companies in adapting to the Chinese market.<\/p>\n

Sri Lankan entrepreneur Biman Najika Liyanage had a different experience. He arrived at Beihang University in Beijing in 2009 and initially struggled to adapt. At one point, serious illness and financial difficulties left him considering a return home. Encouragement from a professor, however, changed his path.<\/p>\n

Liyanage entered a university technology competition and developed sensor-equipped gloves to assist communication for people with hearing and visual impairments, winning first prize. He later remained in Beijing and launched technology ventures focusing on artificial intelligence, healthcare and the Internet of Things. His team\u2019s AI-based emotion detection project, designed to identify anxiety and depression through voice features, has received more than $1.2 million in clinical research funding.<\/p>\n

German entrepreneur Jelte, who has lived in China for nearly two decades, has witnessed the gradual improvement of Beijing\u2019s business environment. He says procedures related to company registration, visas and talent incentives have become increasingly streamlined, creating wider opportunities for overseas entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n

In 2019, he co-founded a technology company that connects international innovation projects with the Chinese market. His team helps foreign startups understand Chinese market rules and assists local institutions in evaluating international projects. Nearly 30 foreign companies have established operations in China through their work, while about 90 percent of the projects they recommended have reportedly been successfully implemented.<\/p>\n

Brazilian entrepreneur Daniel also launched his Beijing company in 2019, starting with just 6,000 yuan in seed capital. He sees the different stages of technological development in China and Brazil as creating significant space for cooperation.<\/p>\n

His company began with educational robots, sourcing hardware from Guangdong Province and adapting software for public schools in Brazil. The business later generated more than $2 million annually and expanded into smart agriculture and virtual reality. Last year, the company\u2019s revenue exceeded 50 million yuan, with much of the income reinvested in research and development.<\/p>\n

South Korean entrepreneur Kim Junbum has operated a technology business in Beijing for 15 years. He says the policy framework for foreign entrepreneurs has become increasingly practical and supportive. His company later expanded into new-media production.<\/p>\n

Kim initially worried that being a foreign national could create difficulties in content production and partnerships. Instead, he found that creative entrepreneurship was encouraged as long as operations remained compliant with regulations. He is now preparing a documentary series related to Belt and Road cooperation.<\/p>\n

Belgian entrepreneur Antoine Bruneel describes Beijing\u2019s development in one word: speed. Since arriving in China in 2006, he has worked in media, motorsports and the new-energy sector. He says simplified visa procedures, wider access for foreign investment and online business registration have made conditions significantly easier for international founders.<\/p>\n

Bruneel has also observed a shift in economic relations. Two decades ago, European companies were primarily seeking opportunities in China, while today Chinese firms are increasingly looking toward European markets. He sees long-term potential in complementary cooperation, particularly in new-energy vehicles and related technologies.<\/p>\n

Afghan entrepreneur Wahed Ahmadzai has spent 12 years in Beijing. Fluent in seven languages, he helps foreign entrepreneurs understand Chinese policies, translates official documents and assists with company establishment procedures.<\/p>\n

Since 2021, his team has organized hundreds of exchange activities, connected more than 5,000 international professionals and helped more than 50 foreign companies and projects establish themselves in Beijing. For Ahmadzai, the Chinese capital has become a global innovation platform where international talent can transform ideas into practical cross-border cooperation.<\/p>\n

These experiences show that Beijing is increasingly becoming more than a market for foreign talent and entrepreneurs. It is developing into a platform for international innovation, technology and cooperation. Foreign professionals are working alongside Chinese colleagues in design, technology, manufacturing, media and research, expanding both economic interaction and cultural understanding.<\/p>\n

The impact of China\u2019s broader opening-up policy is particularly visible in Beijing. Foreign young people seeking business opportunities in the capital are no longer merely visitors or observers. They are becoming active participants in China\u2019s innovation and economic transformation.<\/p>\n
