Specialty agricultural products from China\u2019s highland regions are gaining access to major urban markets through improved cold-chain logistics and air transportation. A farming and livestock cooperative in Zhenjiangguan Township, Songpan County, Sichuan Province, is delivering freshly harvested green beans to Beijing, connecting remote mountain farms with consumers in the national capital.<\/p>\n

The cooperative has expanded green bean cultivation to more than 400 mu of land, equivalent to approximately 26.7 hectares, near forested areas. With the arrival of autumn, the crop has entered a productive harvesting period. Local farmers are taking advantage of favorable weather to pick, collect and prepare the beans for shipment. According to the cooperative, the highland climate, soil conditions and surrounding ecological environment contribute to the quality of the produce.

Cooperative manager Ke Ling said approximately 400 mu of green beans had been planted this year, with cultivation divided into two stages according to altitude. Farmers in lower-altitude areas have already completed seven rounds of harvesting, while approximately 200 mu at higher elevations have undergone five rounds. By leaving the plants in place after each harvest, growers can collect additional crops and generate income from repeated harvests.<\/p>\n

The cooperative says its green beans are grown without agricultural chemicals and have a tender texture and naturally sweet taste, characteristics that have attracted positive market feedback. To preserve quality, the beans are transferred to the cooperative\u2019s cold-storage facility immediately after harvesting. Workers then sort, process, pack and seal the produce according to established standards, maintaining low temperatures throughout the process to protect freshness and nutritional value.

According to Ke Ling, each day\u2019s harvest is processed and packed before being loaded onto refrigerated vehicles at around 9 p.m. for transportation to Chengdu Tianfu International Airport. From there, the beans are flown to Beijing, arriving early the following morning. The system enables vegetables harvested in the highlands to reach consumers in the capital within a short period.<\/p>\n

The cooperative has integrated direct farm collection, refrigerated transportation and rapid air freight into a coordinated production and distribution system. This approach reduces delivery times and helps limit the deterioration in quality that can occur during long-distance transportation. It also demonstrates how specialty vegetables from remote agricultural areas can reach major cities rather than remain confined to local markets.<\/p>\n

By connecting highland agriculture with modern storage and transportation infrastructure, the initiative offers a practical model for expanding rural agricultural businesses. Maintaining product quality, reliable supply and market access could help increase farmers\u2019 incomes while establishing distinctive mountain-grown products in China\u2019s wider domestic market.<\/p>\n
