A government establishes credibility through the responsible fulfilment of its promises, rather than the scale of its announcements. When it raises commitments to secure justice in Nirmala Pant\u2019s rape and murder case, bring fugitives implicated in cooperative cases back from abroad, and investigate the royal palace massacre, it sets the standards by which its performance will be judged. Citizens are now asking questions against those standards. The government\u2019s response must offer investigative progress, the grounds for its decisions and tangible results.<\/p>\n

The Nirmala Pant family\u2019s wait for justice cannot remain a subject of political speeches. The government must ensure a credible investigation capable of identifying those responsible and securing justice. Without compromising the investigation, it can explain where earlier efforts fell short, the status of available evidence and the work now underway. Building a case that withstands judicial scrutiny matters more than rushing to demonstrate success through an arrest. Repeated assurances only deepen the family\u2019s anguish when they produce no progress.<\/p>\n

In the cooperative cases, public concern extends beyond news of arrests. Depositors want to know where their savings went, how the assets of those responsible are being traced and what prospects exist for recovering their money. If commitments have been made to bring back GB Rai, Bharat Maharjan and others reportedly abroad, progress must be explained. International legal procedures and cooperation from the countries concerned may be necessary. The government should provide a responsible account of its efforts and remaining obstacles rather than announce deadlines it cannot meet.<\/p>\n

A commitment to investigate the royal palace massacre is also a serious responsibility of the state. It requires a clear mandate, an independent investigative structure, access to records and a credible process for publishing findings. Raising historical trauma when politically convenient and then shelving it deepens distrust. If the government considers a new investigation necessary, it must explain why, how it will proceed and what will distinguish it from earlier inquiries. Raising the issue without establishing a path towards evidence-based conclusions is insufficient.<\/p>\n

The government has the authority and responsibility to mobilize state institutions. But the police, army, Armed Police Force, administration, courts and House of Representatives have different roles. Courts and parliament have independent responsibilities; security agencies and the administration must also operate within the law. Cooperation does not mean unquestioning obedience to everything the leadership says. Effective governance enables institutions to fulfil their legal duties. Political direction of investigations and pressure on judicial proceedings undermine the government\u2019s own credibility.<\/p>\n

As Dashain approaches, citizens face another test in the marketplace. Complaints about the difficulty of meeting food, travel and everyday expenses deserve priority. Visible action is needed on market monitoring, compliance with displayed prices, artificial shortages, food quality and reliable supplies. Announcing subsidized outlets is not enough. The government must assess where those services are available, who benefits and what effect they have on the wider market. Festival relief must be felt in household spending.<\/p>\n

The government can earn public trust by fulfilling its commitments and easing everyday pressures. Justice and the cost of living both concern citizens\u2019 dignity. It should report progress responsibly, explain delays and demonstrate corrective action. Treating criticism as obstruction produces no achievement. Citizens are reminding the government that these were its own promises\u2014and responsibility for fulfilling them rests with it.<\/p>\n
