Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran\u2019s Supreme National Security Council, said he had read a letter from US Vice President JD Vance but had not yet replied.<\/p>\n

The letter, sent at the direction of US President Donald Trump, arrived in Tehran on Thursday and called for peace talks to resume, the Wall Street Journal reported.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Iran\u2019s state broadcaster on Saturday, Rezaei described a change in Washington\u2019s tone in the letter as \u201ca good sign.\u201d He declined to provide further details, saying the US side had remained silent on the matter.<\/p>\n

Rezaei insisted that the United States must meet Iran\u2019s seven conditions. \u201cUnless our conditions are met, the Strait of Hormuz will not be opened, and we will not sit down for talks,\u201d he said. He added that Washington had also submitted another proposal and that diplomatic channels were being used to address ambiguities in it.<\/p>\n

Rezaei warned that Iran would deliver \u201cdevastating blows\u201d if the United States made a mistake. Also on Saturday, Ali Abdollahi, chief of staff of Iran\u2019s armed forces, said the country was monitoring the movements and preparations of its adversaries. He warned that any hostile action would prompt an immediate and effective response, with no geographical limits.<\/p>\n

On February 28, Israel and the United States launched joint attacks on Tehran and other Iranian cities. Iran responded with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and US military bases and assets in the region. It then tightened its control over the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n

A ceasefire between the warring parties took effect on April 8. On June 18, Iran and the United States signed a memorandum of understanding to end the war across all fronts in the region. Under the agreement, the two countries were to hold talks by August 17 to reach a final accord on Iran\u2019s nuclear program and the removal of sanctions. However, they made insufficient progress toward a deal.<\/p>\n
