Ngari Rinpoche Passes Away on Chinese New Year

Dharamshala – Tenzin Choegyal (Ngari Rinpoche), an important figure in the Tibetan spiritual tradition and the younger brother of the Dalai Lama, has passed away at the age of 80 in Dharamshala, India. Living in exile in India since 1959, he was regarded as a symbol of reverence and guidance for the Tibetan community.

Dharamshala is widely known as the principal center of the Tibetan exile community, where the Dalai Lama and his family have resided for many years. About ten years younger than the Dalai Lama, Tenzin Choegyal made significant contributions during his years in exile to preserving Tibetan Buddhist traditions, promoting spiritual education, and safeguarding cultural identity.

Following the historic exodus from Tibet to India, he played an active role in strengthening the community, protecting religious values, and fostering spiritual awareness among the younger generation.

News of his passing on the very day of the Chinese New Year has added a special emotional significance for the Tibetan community. Tibetans and well-wishers around the world have paid tribute and offered prayers for the eternal peace of his soul.
