North Korea Accuses South Korea of Violating Its Airspace with Drone

Pyongyang, January 10 — North Korea has accused South Korea of violating its airspace. According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), a drone launched from South Korea on Sunday allegedly entered North Korean airspace.

The Korean People’s Army said it detected and tracked an aerial target flying northward from South Korea’s Incheon area on Sunday. The drone was brought under control using special electronic warfare equipment and forced to crash near Kaesong Municipality, a spokesperson for the General Staff of the Korean People’s Army said.

According to the statement, the drone was used to conduct photographic surveillance of major facilities and military targets while flying over multiple locations inside North Korea. KCNA said video footage obtained from cameras mounted on the drone provided clear evidence that it violated North Korea’s territorial airspace and was used for espionage purposes.

North Korea said it views the incident as a serious violation of its sovereignty.
