‘Not the King, but RSP is the Threat to Democracy’: Sharp Comment by UML Leader Badal

Kathmandu / CPN-UML Central Committee member Samik Badal has made a sharp comment, stating that the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) poses a greater threat to democracy than former King Gyanendra Shah. Speaking at an event organized in Kathmandu on Sunday, he accused the RSP of leading the current anarchy.
Badal argued that a narrative suggesting the democratic system is in danger should not be constructed based solely on the expression given by former King Gyanendra Shah on the occasion of Democracy Day. He said, “It would be wrong to conclude that democracy is in crisis by only looking at the former king’s statements. The real danger stems from the tendency to distrust the parliament and parliamentary values and to engage in anarchic activities, which is being led by the RSP.”
He objected to attempts to accuse UML by not making the investigation report of the Genuine (Janajati) Commission public on time, a commission formed by the government following the Discord case. He stated that hiding the commission’s report and trying to misuse it politically was unfortunate.
Claiming that his party would secure a majority in the upcoming elections, Badal asserted that the UML is the only alternative for the country’s stability and development. He said, “The people want an end to the current anarchy and instability. Only the UML can lead that. We will demonstrate this by securing a clear majority in the upcoming elections.”
