Oli’s Stern Warning: Protest or Elections? No Decision Yet

Allegation that the government is becoming “unpolitical and uncivilized”

Kathmandu – KP Sharma Oli, Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML), has said that it is still unclear whether the current political situation will push his party toward street protests or keep it within the electoral process. Addressing a party entry program at the party’s central office, Chairman Oli expressed strong dissatisfaction with the government’s conduct.

Accusing the government of deliberately humiliating him, Oli cited an incident he faced at Tribhuvan International Airport while returning from Jhapa. “While returning from Jhapa, I was harassed at the airport with checks as if I were a gold smuggler,” he said. “Even when traveling abroad, such treatment does not happen in familiar places, but yesterday I had to endure humiliation at my own country’s airport. When asked why, they said it was on orders from above.”

Chairman Oli further alleged that the government is deliberately moving in a direction aimed at troubling his party. “This government is bent on causing us suffering,” he said. “This government is not only unpolitical, it is also uncivilized.”

He claimed that the government’s mindset has become one of disrespecting political leaders. “That behavior was directed at me,” Oli remarked, adding, “At times, it feels as though we are not even living in a civilized world.”

Oli’s remarks are being viewed as a sign of growing political tension between the ruling side and the opposition. While keeping the decision on protests or electoral participation open, he also hinted that the party may take tougher steps in the coming days depending on the situation.
