PLA Eastern Theater Command Conducts Combat Readiness Patrols Around Taiwan

Beijing, December 30. The Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) announced on Monday that it is deploying its naval and air forces to carry out combat readiness patrol operations around Taiwan Island and its surrounding areas.

Spokesperson for the PLA Eastern Theater Command, Shi Yi, stated that vessels and aircraft will approach Taiwan Island from various directions. He emphasized, “The purpose of this move is to test the troops’ capability for rapid maneuvers, to establish an all-domain posture, and to execute systemic blockade and control operations.”

This activity comes at a time when tensions in the region are heightened. Shi Yi said, “This patrol demonstrates the PLA’s firm will and capability to maintain control over the situation in the Taiwan Strait and its surrounding areas.”

He clarified, “PLA soldiers are always ready to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.” He also noted that this exercise is a response to the complex and serious situation arising in the Taiwan Strait, and it is a necessary measure taken by the military.

For some time now, the PLA has been conducting frequent military exercises around Taiwan, which China views as its response and warning regarding the situation in the Taiwan Strait. China has repeatedly reiterated that Taiwan is an inseparable part of its territory and that it opposes any form of “Taiwan independence” activities.

With this patrol operation, the regional situation may become more tense. However, the PLA spokesperson made clear that this exercise is primarily aimed at enhancing the military’s combat capability and ensuring national security. He said, “The PLA will take firm action against any form of separatist activities and will defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

The international community has paid serious attention to this matter and has requested all parties to exercise restraint and avoid any actions that could escalate tensions. While stating its commitment to peaceful reunification, China has also made clear that it will confront any attempts to challenge its national integrity.

During this patrol operation, the PLA stated that it will closely monitor air and sea activities around Taiwan and will adopt appropriate measures if necessary.
