Pledge for “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali” Rooted in Ancient Glory: Chair Olli Shares Mantra for National Revival

Jhapa, – CPN-UML Chair and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has claimed that the national aspiration for a “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali” is inspired by the essence of Nepal’s ancient civilization and Vedic knowledge, while calling for basing modern development on the country’s glorious past.
Addressing a religious ceremony in Jhapa, Chair Oli described Nepal as a nation with a five-thousand-year-old history that was a leader in knowledge and science, stating, “We were ahead of everyone in the world. Our ancestors were the ones who created this knowledge, this creation, and many such innovations.”
He declared the Vedic mantra “Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah” (May all be happy) as the philosophical foundation for modern prosperity, pronouncing it the fundamental mantra for nation-building.
Chair Oli delineated a clear distinction between a ‘Hindu Nation’ and ‘Sanatana Dharma,’ establishing the Sanatana tradition as Nepal’s core cultural identity and the shared heritage of all Nepalis of every faith. According to his argument, while the concept of a ‘Hindu Nation’ emerged in recent centuries, Sanatana values and philosophy have flowed through the heart of Nepali civilization for ages.
Referring to the country as ‘Devabhumi’ (Land of Gods), ‘Tapobhumi’ (Land of Meditation), and ‘Gyanabhumi’ (Land of Knowledge), Oli reiterated his commitment to restoring the fading national pride. He presented the historical fact that medical science began in Nepal itself, declaring the world-renowned physician Sage Sushruta as the world’s first surgeon.
Although present in the capacity of a candidate, Chair Oli clarified that he had come not for election campaigning but to reaffirm the pledge to build the nation. He mentioned his strict adherence to the election code of conduct, as well as the compulsion of not being able to make donations at the religious ceremony despite his wish to do so.
In this sequence, he stated that the ultimate goal is the happiness and prosperity of all Nepalis according to the spirit of the Vedic “Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah,” and for this, ancient Nepali knowledge and science should be made the basis of modern education and development.
