Political Tension in Dang: RSP Activist Sets Fire to UML Flag

Kathmandu, February 20. Political tension has escalated in Tulsipur, Dang, following an incident where activists of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) allegedly set fire to the UML party flag. Supporters gathered to welcome RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane and senior leader Balen Shah are accused of igniting the flag emblazoned with the UML’s sun symbol.
In a video that has gone viral on social media, the group can be seen raising provocative slogans against the UML and its party chairman, KP Sharma Oli. The incident occurred while Lamichhane was en route from Surkhet to Ghorahi via Tulsippur.
The event, which took place in Tulsippur, the hometown of UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel, has drawn sharp criticism from UML Central Member Shanta Chaudhary. She has condemned the act as indecorous and undemocratic.
Meanwhile, the Dang chapter of the RSP has clarified that the party had no involvement in the act, calling the incident unfortunate and stating that an investigation would be conducted.
With general elections scheduled for March 5, analysts suggest this incident could adversely affect the electoral environment. The growing tension between the two parties is expected to have an impact on voters as well.
