Positive Response from Chinese President Xi Jinping to U.S. Youth China–U.S. Education Exchange Program

Beijing/Miami — Chinese President Xi Jinping has responded to a letter from a U.S. youth education exchange delegation, encouraging more American youth to play an active role as representatives of a new generation in promoting China–U.S. friendship.

After visiting several Chinese cities in October 2025, the delegation members wrote to President Xi to express their gratitude. They said the trip had given them a deeper understanding of China’s culture, education system, technological innovation, and personal interactions.

The visit was part of the “50,000 in Five Years” initiative, proposed by Xi during his visit to San Francisco in 2023, aimed at bringing 50,000 American youth to China for study and exchange programs over a five-year period.

Milinda Sylvain, principal of Diamond Minds Transformational Leadership Academy in Miami, said, “My first reaction was one of deep surprise, gratitude, and honor. We wrote with sincerity and respect, but we did not expect a personal reply.”

In their letter, the delegation reflected on their visit and described one of the most memorable activities: building a Luban bridge using ancient Chinese woodworking techniques with Chinese students. The U.S. students said that in the process, they not only learned scientific concepts but also constructed a symbolic bridge of friendship and mutual understanding.

In his reply, President Xi expressed his pleasure that the teachers and students had a pleasant and rewarding journey. He also noted his appreciation for their strong interest in and sincere feelings toward Chinese culture. Xi emphasized that the hope for China–U.S. relations lies with the people, and its future depends on the youth.

The delegation members said Xi’s letter sent a clear and powerful message: youth exchanges are important, people-to-people connections are valued at the highest level, and students’ experiences and voices are genuinely heard.

Gary Dvorchak, Executive Director of the Sino–U.S. Friendship House, stated, “Xi Jinping’s letter is truly inspiring for Miami and the entire United States. The ‘50,000 in Five Years’ initiative has been extremely successful and has fostered enthusiasm among young people to understand China.”

To date, 80 percent of the five-year goal has already been achieved, reflecting the strong desire among American youth to learn about China.

Student Abella said, “This exchange inspired me to learn more about China and encouraged other young people around me to explore the world with open minds.” Another student, Nayah, said, “This experience deepened my respect for Chinese culture and motivated me to continue learning, engaging with others, and acting as a bridge between the two countries.”

This collaborative effort between Chinese and American youth continues to build a bridge of friendship, with future plans including teacher and student visits, joint curriculum development, and shared learning projects to further strengthen the ties.
