Record Number of Russian Tourists to Nepal Surpasses 15,000

Kathmandu — The number of Russian tourists visiting Nepal reached a historic high in 2025. According to the Nepal Tourism Board, more than 15,000 Russian tourists arrived in the country this year, marking an increase of nearly 10 percent compared to 2024. When compared to the pre-pandemic year of 2019, the growth stands at an impressive 57 percent.
This notable achievement is being viewed as a positive outcome of strengthened tourism cooperation between Nepal and Russia. Over the past year, officials from the Nepal Tourism Board actively participated in various tourism exhibitions, fairs, and promotional events held in Russia. In addition, coordinated efforts by relevant government agencies and the private sector have played a significant role in positioning Nepal as an increasingly attractive destination for Russian travelers.
Russian tourists are showing growing interest in Nepal’s adventure tourism offerings, mountain climbing, religious and cultural heritage, and natural beauty. The rise in tourist arrivals is expected to have a positive impact not only on the tourism industry but also on the local economy and employment generation.
This milestone is regarded as a reflection of the long-standing friendship, mutual trust, and cultural closeness between the peoples of the two countries. The trend is seen as an important indicator of deepening people-to-people ties between Nepal and Russia.
