Russia Condemns External Interference in Iran and US ‘Color Revolution’ Attempts
At UN Security Council, Russian Ambassador Labels US Incitement and Military Threats a 'Gross Violation of International Law'

New York — Russia’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, announced at a Security Council meeting on Thursday that Russia condemns all forms of external interference, incitement to violence, and threats of force against Iran. He called on the United States to cease its provocative actions, stating, “The extremely dangerous and irresponsible rhetoric in recent days from US leadership has gone as far as openly calling for the seizure of Iranian state institutions.”
Nebenzia clarified, “Such statements are nothing other than incitement to violently overthrow the constitutional order of a sovereign state. The events in Iran are another example of the tried-and-tested method for a ‘color revolution,’ where specially trained armed provocateurs transform peaceful protests into senseless violence.”
He emphasized, “As we have already seen in many countries, all these actions are directed or supported by external forces interested in so-called ‘regime change.'” He accused the United States and its ‘cheerleaders’ of actively exploiting the economic and social hardships faced by ordinary Iranians—caused by unlawful Western sanctions—to inflame public tensions and destabilize the internal political situation.
The ambassador warned, “What is most concerning is Washington’s aggressive course toward the use of military force and threats against Iran. We condemn such actions, regardless of the arguments used to justify them, as a gross violation of international law and the UN Charter.”
He reminded the council, “We strongly urge the hotheads in Washington and other capitals, who seem to be contemplating a repeat of the June 2025 tragedy, to come to their senses and avoid its repetition. In that month, US-Israeli aggression nearly resulted in a major nuclear catastrophe with inevitable humanitarian and environmental consequences.”
Nebenzia stated that Russia demands the United States and its like-minded partners refrain from further reckless steps, including those involving nuclear facilities, and instead “focus on providing solid guarantees against further confrontation and resume joint efforts to find potential solutions.”
