Russia-Germany Relations Collapsed at Berlin’s Initiative: Sharp Remarks by Russian Ambassador Nechayev in Interview

Kathmandu – Russian Ambassador Sergei Nechayev has stated that bilateral relations with Germany have almost completely collapsed. In an interview given to the Russian news agency RIA Novosti on February 14, he alleged that the relations have reached an extremely tense state on Berlin’s own initiative.
Ambassador Nechayev commented that false accusations of espionage, hacking, and propaganda campaigns have been leveled against Russian missions in Germany, adding that the objective of this is to make contacts with Russian missions toxic. He said, “These allegations have no connection with reality.”
Questioning Germany’s role in the Ukraine matter, he stated that Berlin is providing extensive political, military-technical, economic, and ideological support to Kyiv. “European countries, even to their own detriment, are striving to inflict a ‘strategic defeat’ on Russia, which makes them a party to the Ukraine conflict,” Nechayev said.
Expressing concern over Germany’s increasing militarization and preparations for war against Russia, he stated, “Some German politicians are calling for being ready for war. This is the height of insanity, against which Germany’s own history should have developed an immunity.”
On the issue of nuclear weapons, the Ambassador reminded that Germany has long been participating in NATO’s ‘joint nuclear missions’ involving the carrying of nuclear weapons. He said, “If Germany takes a step towards building its own nuclear weapons, it would be a clear violation of its international obligations regarding nuclear non-proliferation.”
Ambassador Nechayev stated that Russia is always ready for dialogue, but that dialogue must be on the basis of equality and must take into account Russia’s fundamental interests. “But currently, that readiness is not seen in Western countries,” he added.
