Russian Ambassador Criticizes UN Human Rights Commission’s Silence, Demands Condemnation of Kiev Regime’s Terrorism

Geneva, January 2, 2026 – Gennady Gatilov, Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations Office in Geneva, has expressed serious objection to the United Nations human rights system’s silence in condemning the terrorist drone attack by the Kiev regime on the residence of the Russian President.

Ambassador Gatilov stated, “While an increasing number of states have condemned the Kiev regime’s long-range drone attack on the official residence of the Russian President in the Novgorod Region, the stubborn silence of the UN human rights system, led by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Mr. Volker Türk, is puzzling.”

He described this behavior as yet another confirmation of Mr. Türk’s political bias and unwillingness to provide a principled assessment of Kiev’s criminal actions. Ambassador Gatilov posed a direct question: “Mr. Türk, will you still refer to the lack of information and unconfirmed evidence in this case?”

The Ambassador expects a timely response and assessment from the relevant special procedures of the Human Rights Council. He warned, “Its absence would amount to silently covering up another crime committed by the Kiev clique, which has shifted to a policy of state terrorism.”

This remark follows the drone attack in the Novgorod Region on December 29, which Russia has described as a security threat targeting President Vladimir Putin’s residence. Gatilov stated that if UN bodies fail to criticize the actions of the Kiev regime, they would be effectively encouraging terrorism.

The Russian representative called on the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to fulfill its responsibility of neutrality and impartiality, asserting, “To remain silent is to permit terrorism.”
