Shelling Near UN Peacekeeping Post in Southern Lebanon, Nepali Battalion Safe

Kathmandu, March 15 — Shelling occurred near a United Nations peacekeeping post in the Mays al-Jabal area of southern Lebanon, causing minor damage inside the compound. Nepali peacekeepers stationed at the post have been reported safe.

According to initial reports, the shelling took place close to the headquarters of a Nepali battalion deployed under the United Nations peacekeeping mission United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). While parts of the compound sustained structural damage, no Nepali soldiers were injured in the incident.

The area has remained tense in recent days amid escalating hostilities between the Israel Defense Forces and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. The shelling reportedly occurred in this context of heightened military activity in the region.

Nepali peacekeepers deployed under the UN mission are responsible for monitoring the security situation, supporting stability in the area, and coordinating with local communities as part of the UN peacekeeping mandate.

Further information regarding the damage and the circumstances surrounding the incident is being assessed through the United Nations peacekeeping mechanism.
