UK Says ‘No’ to Iran Attack: Starmer Tells Parliament We Will Not Participate

Kathmandu – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has made it clear that his country will not participate in any form in the ongoing attacks on Iran by the United States and Israel. Addressing the British Parliament on March 2, local time, Prime Minister Starmer stated that military action without a legal basis is illegal.
Prime Minister Starmer said the decision was made keeping in mind Britain’s national interest and its commitment to international law. Despite US President Donald Trump expressing dissatisfaction with Britain’s stance, Starmer asserted that Britain would make decisions according to its own constitutional values and principles.
Earlier, Prime Minister Starmer had refused to allow the US to use the military base in the Chagos Archipelago for attacks on Iran. However, in a statement issued on the night of March 1, he agreed to allow the use of the military base solely for defensive purposes.
This decision by Prime Minister Starmer highlights the balanced approach emerging in Britain’s foreign policy. He also emphasized the need to reduce international tensions and resolve problems through diplomatic means.
