UML Secretariat Meeting’s Historic Decision: Early Nomination of KP Oli for Prime Minister’s Post

Firm Commitment to Preserve Majority, Dedicated to Protecting Democracy and Nationality

Kathmandu – The Secretariat meeting of the CPN-UML held yesterday has made an important and historic decision to advance party Chairman KP Sharma Oli as the future Prime Minister. Along with this decision, the party has announced that it will firmly strive to preserve the full majority status established in the parliament and is committed to moving forward to protect democracy and nationality, no matter what circumstances it may face.

This decision made by the Secretariat meeting has given a clear indication that the UML has made Chairman Oli the main contender for forming the upcoming government. According to party sources, it has been stated that there is no disagreement within the party regarding Oli also being the leader of the parliamentary party.

During the meeting, there was serious discussion especially on how to strengthen and preserve the full majority established in the parliament. According to the decision, it has been assessed that “This majority is not merely numerical; it is a symbol of the people’s trust.” Therefore, the party has developed a strategy to sustain it, prioritizing internal unity as well as coordination with coalition partners.

As mentioned by the meeting, the UML will continue to move forward in the interest of preserving democratic values and national unity as the country faces various challenges. The phrase “no matter what circumstances it may face” indicates the party’s readiness to confront any political upheaval or challenges that may arise in the coming days.

This decision has created significant discussion in politics. According to analysts, through this, the UML has sent a message of unity within the party and also given a clear signal to coalition partners that the leadership of the upcoming government will be Oli’s. Now, Oli’s candidacy from Koshi Province also seems set to be formalized.

The same Secretariat meeting has also decided to finalize the list of candidates at the provincial and district levels, prepare election strategies, and accelerate dialogue with coalition partners. It is expected that formal approval for this will come from the Central Committee meeting in the coming days.
