Chinese Embassy Presses Japan for Stronger Security Measures

Tokyo. Expressing serious concern over a violent robbery involving a Chinese national in Japan’s capital, the Chinese Embassy in Japan has lodged a formal representation with the Japanese police. The embassy urged authorities to swiftly investigate the incident, immediately arrest those responsible, and ensure effective protection of the lives and property of Chinese nationals in Japan.

According to Japanese media reports, a Chinese national was attacked near Tokyo’s Ueno area on Thursday night. The assailants reportedly used a substance resembling pepper spray on the victim and fled after stealing suitcases carried by the victim and four accompanying companions. The individuals or group involved in the incident remain at large.

Responding to the incident, the Chinese Embassy drew attention to the public security situation in Japan and reiterated its advice for Chinese citizens to refrain from traveling to Japan for the time being. It also urged Chinese nationals currently in Japan to remain alert to local security conditions, avoid unnecessary risks, and further strengthen personal safety precautions.

The embassy additionally advised Chinese citizens to promptly report any emergencies or criminal incidents to the local police and to immediately contact Chinese diplomatic missions in Japan for necessary assistance.

The incident, which occurred in Tokyo—widely regarded as one of the world’s safest cities—has raised questions about public security in Japan and appears to have intensified diplomatic concern and pressure at the bilateral level.
