Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin Exchange New Year Greetings

Beijing/Moscow — Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin exchanged New Year messages on Wednesday to mark the occasion.

On behalf of the Chinese government and the Chinese people, President Xi extended heartfelt New Year greetings and best wishes to President Putin and the Russian people. In his message, Xi noted that 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, and that China and Russia will jointly commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the Soviet Union’s Great Patriotic War, and the victory over world fascism.

Xi said that this shared historical remembrance conveys a powerful message that peace, justice, and the triumph of the people are inevitable. He added that 2025 is also a pivotal year for further strengthening the China–Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for the new era. Recalling their meetings in Beijing and Moscow, Xi noted that the two leaders held in-depth discussions on major issues of common concern.

According to President Xi, the implementation of mutual visa-free travel between the two countries has been completed, the construction of energy corridors is progressing steadily, and cooperation in new and emerging fields is expanding rapidly. He also noted that China and Russia continue to support each other within the United Nations and other multilateral mechanisms, contributing to the reform of the global governance system.

Xi further pointed out that 2026 will mark the 30th anniversary of the China–Russia strategic partnership of coordination and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation. He announced that 2026–2027 will be celebrated as the “China–Russia Years of Education.”

In concluding his message, the Chinese president expressed his readiness to maintain close communication and cooperation with President Putin to continuously elevate bilateral relations to new heights in the new era.
