Xi Jinping Responds to U.S. Youth Delegation

Future of China–U.S. Relations Lies with the Youth

Beijing — Chinese President Xi Jinping has replied to a letter from a youth education exchange delegation that recently visited China from the United States. The delegation included teachers and students from the Diamond Minds Transformational Leadership Academy in Miami, Florida, the University of Florida, and Miami-Dade College.

In his reply dated January 7, President Xi said he was pleased to learn that the teachers and students found their visit to China pleasant and rewarding. He also noted their strong interest in and sincere appreciation for Chinese culture.

Addressing China–U.S. relations, Xi Jinping emphasized that the hope of relations between the two countries lies with the people, and that their future depends on the younger generation. He noted that since the launch of the “50,000 in Five Years” initiative, more than 40,000 American youth have actively participated, providing them with an opportunity to better understand the real China and building a bridge of friendship between the peoples of the two countries.

Xi said the initiative clearly demonstrates that fostering friendly exchanges and cooperation is a shared aspiration of the people of both China and the United States.

The Chinese president expressed his hope that more American youth will join the cause of China–U.S. friendship, become a new generation of envoys of friendship between the two countries, and make greater contributions to strengthening people-to-people exchanges and promoting the development of bilateral relations.

Earlier, teachers and students of the U.S. delegation had written to President Xi, reflecting on their visit to China in October 2025 and expressing gratitude for the “50,000 in Five Years” initiative. They noted that the program has provided a valuable opportunity to enhance mutual understanding and trust between the youth of the two countries.
