Journalists’ Union to Prime TV: Protest if Salary Arrears Not Cleared Within a Week

Kathmandu — The Labor Journalists’ Union of Nepal has written a letter to Prime Television demanding that journalists and employees be provided with their salaries and allowances. The letter, addressed to television chairman Rishi Dhamala, warns of protest if salaries are not provided within a week.

The letter states: “The Labor Journalists’ Union of Nepal strongly demands that Chairman Rishi Dhamala and the concerned management side pay all outstanding salary allowances within one week, provide timely remuneration and facilities to journalists in accordance with the Labor Journalists Act, and create a journalist-friendly work environment.”

Reminding that timely payment of remuneration and provision of a safe working environment for journalists is the responsibility of media organizations, the union has concluded that neglecting this constitutes a serious violation of labor rights.

Meanwhile, the government has sealed Dhamala’s Reporters Club for non-payment of rent.
