Kantipur Managing Director Sirohiya Resigns Citing Discontent Over Editorial Style

Kathmandu — Sambhav Sirohiya, Managing Director of Kantipur Media Group, has resigned from his position. He informed employees via an internal message that he was stepping down from his responsibilities effective Thursday.
He made his decision public, expressing dissatisfaction with recent content published by the organization, particularly news stories related to former Home Minister Sudhan Gurung. According to him, presenting unverified matters in an exaggerated manner does not align with the principles of journalism.
“It is not possible to move forward with my name associated with a style of journalism I do not accept,” he stated in the message. The news stories in question were published citing sources from investigation agencies, raising certain questions and suspicions. However, Sirohiya argued that presenting such matters without adequate verification creates unnecessary pressure on the new government.
On Thursday morning, he shared excerpts of those news stories on social media, commenting: “This appears to be some kind of purposeful journalism, but its background is not clear.” Reflecting on his tenure, he noted that while the organization’s financial condition was weak when he assumed responsibility, recent efforts had set it on a path toward improvement. He expressed gratitude to the entire team that contributed to that progress.
Sirohiya had taken on leadership on (Ashoj 1, 2080 BS / October 2023). Recently, he had taken steps to bring trusted individuals into key positions within the organization and had made significant investments. His resignation amid these changes has sparked further debate regarding the internal situation and editorial practices at the organization.
