Five Bulldozers Ready at Thapathali: Squatters Warned to Vacate by Today, Demolition Set to Begin Early Tomorrow

Kathmandu — The government, in coordination with Kathmandu Metropolitan City, is demolishing various squatter settlements in the capital. Following a warning to vacate the settlements by this evening, some squatters who had been living on encroached land have begun dismantling their shanties and moving out on their own, while others continue to defy the order and remain in place.

According to sources within the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police, bulldozers will first roll into the Thapathali squatter settlement starting at 7 a.m. tomorrow. Sources confirmed that five bulldozers have been kept on standby for the demolition at the Thapathali settlement site. The government plans to deploy bulldozers in Thapathali, Manohara, and the Sinamangal-Gaurighat area in the first phase.

In view of potential incidents during the demolition, coordination between the Kathmandu administration and the metropolitan authorities is reportedly ongoing.
