Bulldozers Roll into Gaurighat Squatter Settlement: Concrete Structures Demolished, Joint Team from Three Agencies Deployed

Kathmandu — The squatter settlement in Gaurighat, located in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-9, was cleared on Saturday under the government’s directive. As part of the campaign to remove encroached structures and settlements, bulldozers were deployed at the site to demolish the structures.

Compared to the Thapathali area, the Gaurighat settlement was found to have a greater number of concrete permanent structures. A joint team comprising Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force, and Kathmandu Metropolitan Police was mobilized during the clearance operation.

According to police, no obstruction was encountered while vacating the settlement. However, security personnel were kept on high alert keeping in view any potential disruptions. The government is reportedly set to gradually extend this campaign to other areas as well.
