‘Government Is Stripping Citizens’ Rights, Early Signs Are Not Good’ — Madhav Nepal

Kathmandu — Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Co-Coordinator Madhav Kumar Nepal has accused the current government of stripping citizens of their rights. Speaking at a programme organised in Kathmandu on Friday by the All Nepal Trade Union Federation and the Unified Trade Union Federation on the occasion of International Workers’ Day, he said that while citizens’ rights must be guaranteed in a republic, the government is instead seeking to snatch them away.

“The government is trying to take away the constitutional right of students and workers to organise, which no one has the right to do,” he said. He made clear that suppressing squatters without even identifying who the genuine ones are cannot be justified. “The government is carrying out one anti-people action after another; the early signs themselves are not good,” he stated.

He urged the government not to carry out anti-people actions that inflict pain and suffering on the people and called for a long-term resolution of workers’ problems. Co-Coordinator Nepal also expressed readiness to sit together and find solutions if there are any issues in moving the country forward.
