Russian Deputy PM Inspects Floating Nuclear Power Plant in Pevek, Calls It ‘Life Itself for Chukotka’

Kathmandu — Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Trutnev has inspected the floating nuclear thermal power plant based on the “Akademik Lomonosov” energy block in Pevek, in the remote Far Eastern region of Chukotka.
“The floating nuclear power plant is life itself for Chukotka. In the conditions of the Far North, it is hardly possible to survive without heat and energy. It opens up new opportunities for development. Yesterday, we discussed the implementation of the development project for the Baimskaya ore zone. Its development is impossible without energy. So, thank you to everyone who works at the plant,” Deputy Prime Minister Trutnev said.
The floating nuclear power plant in Pevek is an investment project of the state corporation Rosatom. It is designed to replace the retiring capacities of the Bilibino Nuclear Power Plant, supply energy to consumers in the Chaun-Bilibino energy hub of the Chukotka Autonomous Region, and power major mining companies located in western Chukotka, including a large ore and metal cluster, gold mining companies, and projects linked to the development of the Baimskaya ore zone.
