‘Press Freedom Is the Bedrock of Democracy, Engage Fearlessly in Disseminating Truth’ — President Paudel

Kathmandu — President Ramchandra Paudel has extended greetings on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day (May 3), wishing the Nepali media fraternity success in engaging fearlessly and actively in the full exercise and defence of their constitutionally guaranteed rights and in communicating truthful information to citizens.
In a message to all journalists and Nepalis at home and abroad, President Paudel stressed the need to pay special attention to establishing what is right and true in society through the pursuit of truth and the dissemination of facts via free journalism. “Press freedom is the bedrock of democracy. The press has played a significant role in the various movements for democracy. The more impartial, free, and robust the press, the stronger the democratic system becomes,” he stated.
The President noted that the growing use of social media and the misinformation and disinformation that can be spread through these platforms pose a challenge that could mislead citizens and weaken the existing system. He expressed the hope that this day would give the Nepali press community further energy, encouragement, and inspiration to confront such challenges and deliver truthful, factual, and reliable information to the people. “From information gathering to its dissemination, all classes and communities must have their voices articulated through free and unfettered engagement,” he said.
