Nearly 27 Lakh in Unexplained Cash Seized at Biratnagar Airport, Indian and Nepali Arrested Within 24 Hours

Biratnagar. An Indian and a Nepali national have been arrested from Biratnagar Airport within a span of 24 hours, carrying over 2.698 million rupees in cash of unexplained origin. According to the Morang District Police Office, 36-year-old Mohidil Ali of Sujaganj Sindha Chanchal in India’s Malda district was arrested on Saturday morning at 3:45 AM while attempting to fly to Kathmandu on Shree Airlines. A total of 1,598,000 Nepali rupees in denominations of 1,000 and 500 was recovered from his possession, informed Deputy Superintendent of Police Kopila Chudal.
Similarly, on Friday night, 18-year-old Dilip Tamang of Dharan was arrested while boarding a Buddha Air flight from Biratnagar to Kathmandu at 8 PM. A total of 1.1 million rupees, consisting of 2,200 notes of the 500 denomination, was recovered from his bag.
According to DSP Chudal, a combined total of 2,698,000 rupees of unverified source was seized from the two individuals. Investigation is ongoing to determine whose money it was and for what purpose it was being transported. A police source indicated that both individuals appear to have been used as carriers. DSP Chudal stated that necessary investigation into both is underway.
