Maitighar Assault Case: Ambika Basnet and 10 Others Released on Bail

Kathmandu. The Kathmandu District Court has ordered the release of 10 individuals, including Ambika Basnet, on bail. Ambika is the wife of CPN-UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet.

On Baishakh 10, Ambika and others had physically assaulted Shova Pathak at Maitighar. Following the incident, police arrested them and filed a case of attempted murder through the Government Attorney’s Office.

On Thursday, the court ordered Ambika and Sharmila Basnet to be released on a bail of Rs 50,000 each. The remaining eight individuals have been ordered to be released on a bail of Rs 25,000 each.

The eight include Gita Pandit, Pragati Thapa, Sonu Baral, Januka Basnet, Rekha Neupane, Sabina KC, Kamala Basnet, and Nita Khatri.

Pathak, who has alleged sexual violence by Mahesh Basnet, had been staging a sit-in at Maitighar demanding action against him. The accused claim that Ambika and others arrived and assaulted her for making allegations in a matter that is currently sub judice.
